J-Novel Club

Biography

M12 Media LLC (formerly J-Novel Club LLC) is an American publisher of Japanese light novels and manga translated into English, German, and French. J-Novel Club (often abbreviated to JNC) is a digital-first publisher meaning all its titles are released as ebooks first before selecting titles with the highest digital sales to print physical copies. It streams its products in weekly installments (called prepubs) before publishing the finalized ebooks. In addition to Japanese titles, J-Novel Club has also translated German-language pulp fiction into English through its imprint J-Novel Pulp, which debuted in 2021.

J-Novel Club was founded in 2016 by Sam Pinansky.

In 2017, J-Novel Club collaborated with Seven Seas Entertainment to publish print editions of some of its light novels.

In 2018, J-Novel Club announced it would start publishing print editions of some of its light novels. In the same year, it also started publishing manga.

On April 28, 2021 J-Novel Club was purchased by Kadokawa Corporation.

At Anime NYC 2022, J-Novel Club announced it was entering into a new collaboration with Yen Press to publish print editions of their titles.

On March 6, 2024, J-Novel Club reached a print distribution agreement with Hachette Book Group and Diamond Book Distributors via Yen Press. Hachette will distribute all of J-Novel Club's titles in North America while Diamond Book will handle international sales. New releases began to be distributed through Hachette after June 30, 2024. All books will be listed under Yen Press's "JNC" imprint.

On February 1, 2025, J-Novel Club LLC's name was changed to M12 Media LLC, though it will continue to trade as J-Novel Club. On March 10, BookWalker Co., Ltd. announced that its BookWalker Global service would change ownership from BookWalker Co., Ltd. to M12 Media LLC, effective March 31, following BookWalker Co., Ltd.'s dissolution.
