This series is a classic among light novels, and is deservedly so. The world building is top tier, and there's a large cast of diverse characters. The MC's mostly just goes with the flow, so if you like a character with strong motivations and a clear goal, this may not be for you. Also, this series suffer from what I call the Dragon Ball problem. Every time an antagonist is dealt with, the author introduces a new one that's even more powerful and more of a problem than the last. This just keeps happening throughout the series, so by the later volumes, there seems to be a never ending supply of villains that can seemingly destroy worlds on a whim, which I found to be a little tiresome. All that being said, I think this series is worth a read, even if it's just to understand the references. There is a solid foundation of a world building story with a lot of action scenes. There's also a lot of background scheming and foreshadowing, so if that strikes your fancy, That Time I got Reincarnated As A Slime will be well worth your time!
