Biography

Yen Press is an American publisher of Japanese manga and light novels translated into English. Aside from Japanese light novels and manga, Yen Press has also published Korean manhwa, webtoons, and novels, as well as original graphic novels and series.

It was founded in 2006 by Kurt Hassler and Rich Johnson. Originally an imprint of Hachette Book Group US, in 2016 it was spun off as a joint venture between HBG and Kadokawa Corporation with Kadokawa the majority shareholder with a 51% stake.

From July 2008 to December 2013, Yen Press published Yen Plus, a monthly manga anthology magazine. Originally published in print, it went digital-only in August 2010.

Since 2022, Yen Press is in a partnership with J-Novel Club to publish JNC's novels in print.

On November 14, 2024, Yen Press announced a global partnership with Hachette UK, Hachette India, and Hachette Australia to handle sales and distribution to retailers outside of North America. Services for Yen Press went live on December 16, 2024, February 2, 2025, and April, 1, 2025, respectively.
